DSP Tuning and Audio Calibration in Bengaluru

What does DSP tuning actually change in a car?

DSP tuning corrects the problems a car's cabin creates. A digital signal processor lets an installer set level, crossover points, equalisation and time alignment per speaker — so sound from the near and far speakers arrives together, cabin resonances are tamed, and the stereo image sits in front of the driver rather than at the door card. Hardware sets the ceiling; tuning decides how close you get to it.

What this involves

A car is an acoustically hostile room. Speakers sit at different distances from your ears, at odd angles, firing into glass and plastic, inside a small volume that reinforces some low frequencies and cancels others — while the engine and road add noise that changes with speed.

No speaker, however good, solves that by itself. Digital signal processing is the tool that addresses path-length differences, cabin gain and response irregularities. But a DSP is only as good as the person setting it, which is why we tune by measurement against a target rather than by ear alone.

Autoplanet's tuning work has been evaluated by independent judges: the team placed 1st in Expert Unlimited and 1st in Expert Limited, and 3rd in Master OEM, at EMMA Bangalore 2025.

How we approach it

A transparent process, so you know what happens to your car and why.

  1. System assessment

We check what hardware is fitted, how it is wired, and whether the gain structure and crossover settings are sane before touching the tune.

  2. Baseline measurement

Response is measured at the listening positions to see what the cabin is actually doing, rather than what the equipment claims to do.

  3. Gain structure and crossovers

Levels are set for headroom and low noise; crossover points and slopes are chosen to suit each driver's capability and mounting location.

  4. Time alignment

Per-channel delay is set so output from each speaker reaches the listening position coherently — the single biggest contributor to a stable centre image.

  5. Equalisation to target

Parametric EQ addresses cabin-induced peaks and dips, worked toward an agreed target curve rather than a flat line on a screen.

  6. Listening and refinement

We listen to real material with you and refine. Measurement gets you most of the way; the last stretch is a conversation about preference.

  7. Follow-up session

Come back after living with it. Preferences shift once you have heard the system on your own commute, and a second pass is part of the process.

What's included

  • Assessment of existing hardware, wiring and gain structure
  • Measurement at the listening positions
  • Crossover, slope, phase, parametric EQ and time-alignment configuration
  • Tuning toward a target curve agreed with you
  • A listening session and refinement pass
  • A follow-up tuning appointment

What we don't claim

  • Any guaranteed decibel or performance figure — results depend on vehicle, system design and tuning target
  • Repair of faulty hardware, which is quoted separately if we find it
  • A promise that tuning will fix problems caused by unsuitable hardware or mounting

We would rather tell you the limits up front than have you discover them afterwards. Anything we cannot honestly promise before seeing your vehicle, we say so.

Frequently asked questions

What is DSP tuning in car audio?

DSP tuning is the configuration of a digital signal processor to correct the acoustic problems of a specific car cabin. The processor is set for gain, crossover frequency and slope, parametric equalisation, phase and per-channel time delay. Done properly it addresses path-length differences between speakers and your ears, cabin resonances and response irregularities that no speaker choice can fix on its own.

How do I know if my DSP is tuned well?

Listen for where the sound sits. On a well-tuned system the centre image stays in front of you rather than pulling toward the near door, voices sound like they are at roughly the right height, and the character of the sound does not change dramatically with volume. If instruments smear across the dashboard or bass sounds detached from the rest of the music, the tune has work left in it.

Can you tune a system that was installed somewhere else?

Yes, subject to assessment. We check the hardware, wiring and gain structure first, because tuning cannot compensate for a mis-wired system, a badly chosen crossover point or a speaker mounted where it cannot work. If we find something that limits the result, we tell you before starting rather than after.

Does time alignment really make a difference?

It is usually the most audible single change in a car. Your left ear is far closer to the left speaker than the right one, so without correction the stereo image collapses toward the near side. Delaying the near channels so all arrivals coincide at the listening position is what puts a stable centre image in front of the driver.

How long does DSP tuning take?

A careful calibration is not a fifteen-minute job. Measurement, alignment, equalisation and a proper listening pass take time, and the amount depends on channel count and system complexity. An active multi-way system has far more variables than a simple front-stage upgrade. We give you a realistic estimate once we have seen the system.

What is the difference between an active and a passive system?

In a passive system, one amplifier channel feeds a crossover network that splits the signal to tweeter and mid. In an active system each driver gets its own amplifier channel and its crossover is handled in the DSP. Active gives far more control over level, slope and delay per driver — and correspondingly more scope for a tuner to get it right or wrong.
